Doctor Who: The Specials Collection Review

This 5-disc set contains: The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, The Waters of Mars, The End of Time: Part One, and The End of Time: Part Two, and although a lack in episodes, this set makes up for it with nearly 9.5 hours of extras!
I picked mine up on the day of release, from Asda, for just £23.97! Shot home and immediately inserted disc one...
-
-----
Disc One
I was delighted to find the full version of Doctor Who at the Proms on here as it included many of the songs that were played back in the 2006 concert but actually lets the whole thing play, with no cuts and no annoying voice overs (as good as Music and Monsters was on the Series 3 DVD I was still dissapointed with the lack of the full concert)

Hidden, in this concert was the uncanon adventure Music of the Spheres, a delightful piece of fun (although, after the seventh "I said HEEELLLLLOOOO-AAAAHHHH!!!" from David Tennant I got a bit edgy.
-----
Also, on this disc was the Confidential from Christmas, although, beware, this is not the full version as I was dissapointed to find many of the Doctor Who spoofs that featured on the original version had been omitted. Another slight disappointment was the lack of an audio commentary, this was the first Doctor Who of the new series not to do this, along with Planet of the Dead and The Waters of Mars, but no doubt they will be featured on the 180-disc 50th anniversary complete Doctor Who collection in 2013.
------
The Next Doctor in my opinion was a very good episode, and an equally good mystery, you will get my proper review in a few weeks, but I was absolutely conviced that David Morrissey was going to be the Eleventh Doctor! Well, I was wrong. And so was The Sun, but more on their mistakes in tomorrow' article!
------
---
Disc Two
Here you will find Planet of the Dead, and, although the weakest of this collection, I thouroughly enjoyed it as a whole (but found a bit of Michelle Ryan's acting a bit... iffy) I loved Lee Evans as Malcolm Taylor, and the next day in The Sun, reports said he was getting his own spin off show. Well... I live in hope.
----
Also, on this disc was an extended version of Doctor Who Confidential, extended from it's original 50 minutes to a full hour. This was a very interesting show, and one of the most watched. Oh, the bus, the bus! No other features though on this disc. No trailers, no. Which leads me to believe that this is just the 'vanilla' release shoved into the box. But, eh? Can't complain
-----

Disc Three
And now, my favourite of the bunch, The Waters of Mars, I just loved this special, the change of The Doctor, the music, the last fifteen minutes! Everything! Oh, I thought it was so brilliant. And definitely five stars, but more of a review on April 1st, when I've re-watched it in the run up to the new series.
------
On this disc, again, is just a Doctor Who Confidential, and I liked it, yeah, it was good, and very informative, with the water, and little hints to the Christmas episodes, which brings me to...
-----

Disc Four
Along with the four star, to be reviewed on April 2nd, The End of Time: Part One, with some of my favourite scenes of all time (I mean, the cafe, and the montages, oh, and the TARDIS in the window!) is a big batch of extras, unlike the other specials these actually have Commentaries, yay! From David Tennant, Catherine Tate (who should have had a bigger role), and Euros Lyn.
I could listen to them all day!
-----
Along with this is a brilliant 40 minute (should be longer) David Tennant Video Diary, with, as usual, some hilarious moments throughout (remember the police escort last time, and inside the car, in the dark with DT, CT, BP and JB! Oh, hilarious!) Also, there's the confidential wih the shocking revelation that there actually was no helicopter! Also, thrown in are some cool BBC Idents!
-------

Disc Five
The End of Time: Part Two, with a fantastic end sequence will be reviewed on April 2nd. But, although I found it slightly dissapointing, I still loved it, and yes, it made me cry "I don't want to go!" Heartbreaking!
-------
On this disc is another confidential, commentary (John Simm replaces Miss Tate), and deleted scenes (some should hve saved in, some I'm glad are gone) And a comic con featurette (which hardy includes all the good stuff I saw on youtube!
-------

Overall, this is a fantastic set. With a lovely boxset layout with some beautiful pictures. I would recommend this set to anyone!
